Right around 2015 I was working at a Biochemical lab and was in a pretty low place. I made decent money but I just felt very unfulfilled and had a bit of a… quarter-life crisis? lol. At 24 I was wondering what I was gonna do with myself. While playing Halo with friends it came up how awesome it’d be to have an Iron Man helmet and I took it as a challenge and made one. It was ugly… Disproportionate, bad paint job, and it barely fit right. But, at the time, it was really impressive to them (and to me!). I then wanted to make a costume like Nova, one of my favorite comic book heroes. That ended up becoming my first costume. At that time people admired it and a couple asked if I could make them stuff so I accepted. I started out doing some paid crafting on weekends and in my downtime during the week. Not long after that I kept getting referrals from people I worked with as well as a steady stream of film projects.
So I came up with a plan. I would change my availability at my 9-5 job to take Monday off and use that to work commissions, considering I could make more in that day building then I would at the lab. Then some time passed and I worked only half days on Tuesdays allowing me to work the bare minimum hours needed to keep my benefits and insurance. As more time passed, I decided to leave my job and plunge head first into the freelance art world and its worked out and I’ve been doing it ever since! For now, I am a freelance artist working with local crafting and supply companies, conventions, and in a few years I may start putting into motion Cosmic Ash Studios’ FINAL FORM…. BAHAHAHAHA
